In an incident that left Chilanga residents dumbfounded a 22 year old man identified as Bwalya Sindala from farm number 22 Musoma road in Chilanga yesterday (24 November 2011) night raped his 54 year old mother-in-law before hitting her with a shovel on the head several times till death. The man who is a worker at farm number 67 Chowa road left his work place for a binge in the nearby Chisamba township where he is suspected to have taken a few drinks before he went back home where he resides with his mother-in-law identified as Regina Mulenga. When he got home he finding that his wife had taken a trip to the Copperbelt for a funeral, proceeded to his mother-in-law's hut and demanded that she sleeps with him because she had allowed her daughter to make the trip leaving him lonely. The mother-in-law is alleged to have slapped Sindala in the face before he (Sindala) dragged her inside the hut and raped her thrice in the eyes of his 14year old daughter who attempted to scream but was threatened with a knife. After the act at about 0230hrs Sindala then went for the step daughter whom she raped once before he was disturbed by the mother-in-law who had escaped trying to alert the nearby neighbors but was caught by Sindala who hit her several times on the head before she died on the spot. He then proceeded to rape the step daughter again 3 times till morning before he hanged himself on the roof of the hut. The step daughter (name withheld) managed to contact the mother Josephine Mulenga (33) on her phone who then contacted the police in Chilanga who manage to attend to the situation.
